Course director

Hans Örnhagen, MD, PhD

He is a (now retired) research director and responsible for naval medicine research at the Swedish Defense Establishment since 1992. He is also, since 1981, the consulting doctor to the Swedish Sports Diving Federation and he works as a consultant to PADI, SSI and NAUI. He has published "Hyperbaric physiology and diving medicine" a textbook primarily aimed at the education of diving doctors for the Swedish Navy, an activity that Hans Ornhagen has had on his agenda since 1977. He has published two more books and several scientific articles on mainly hyperbaric physiology topics.

Assistant course director and registration/booking responsible

Cecilia Olegård, MD

She is anaesthesiologist and intensive care physician at Sahlgrenska University Hospital Gothenburg since 1996. She has academic training in diving medicine and HBO and supports the recreational diver Training with FTD assessments. Has experience as course assistant and teacher at two previous Courses in Hyperbaric Medicine in the Maldives.

Senior lecturers

Jan Risberg, MD, PhD

Physician at NUI, Haukeland University Hospital and Royal Norwegian Navy. He is consultant diving physician in both recreational (Norwegian Sports Diving Federation and PADI Norway) and professional (NUI) diving. He defended his Ph.D. thesis on circulatory physiology in hyperbaric environments at the University of Bergen in 1994. His daily activities involves FTD assessments, recompression treatments and consulting in hyperbaric medicine. Patophysiology and treatment of decompression illness is a special interest.

Jürg Wendling, MD, PhD

General Surgeon and Hand Surgeon FMH at Spitalzentrum Biel-Bienne, is a diving and hyperbaric medicine specialist SUHMS, Director of DAN Europe Suisse, Committee member of the European Committee for Hyperbaric Medicine ECHM, chairman of Medical Subcommittee of the European Diving Technology Committee EDTC. In this function chairman of the Joint Medical Subcommittee, elaborating the European Standards for medical training in diving and hyperbaric medicine. Course Director of Diving Medicine Physician (DMP) courses in Switzerland. Pst-Director of hyperbaric unit of University Basel 1981-1988. Several publications on fitness-to-dive and closed circuit medical O2 rebreathers. Shilling award of UHMS 2000.
